Frequently Asked Questions

  • What's the difference between natural greaseproof and ordinary greaseproof paper?

    Natural greaseproof paper does not have any chemical treatments or coatings. It acquires its greaseproof properties during the pulping process - its fibres become so tightly entwined that the spaces between them are smaller than a grease molecule. So, natural greaseproof paper is simply paper with no unnecessary chemical treatments, coatings or varnishes and is therefore recyclable.

    Imitation greaseproof is either coated with another material or is chemically treated. When Thomas Edison first invented greaseproof paper he used paraffin, and since then a variety of different chemicals have been used, including PFCs and PFOA. In recent years some of these chemicals have been linked to a number of health related side effects including cancers, thyroid disease and infertility. There have also been concerns about the impact of some of these chemicals in the environment. The chemical industry has responded to these controversies by developing new greaseproofing chemicals and compounds such as PAPS. Time will tell what effect these new chemicals will have on our health and environment.

  • What does 'sustainable' really mean?

    Sustainable is one of those words that is over-used, and defining what sustainability means is something of a challenge. To make things worse phrases such as 'triple bottom sustainability' do little to enlighten, and may even confuse the issue.

    Perhaps sustainable shouldn't have a strict definition. Perhaps it should be used to describe a number of approaches, policies and actions that help to improve the quality of our lives, environment and economic prosperity.

    So when we talk about sustainability at The Gourmet Food Wrap Company we mean:

    • Renewing resources at a rate equal to or greater than the rate at which they are consumed
    • Seeking to live within the resources of the planet, minimising the impact that our actions and operations have on the environment;
    • Sustainability means taking the long-term view of how our actions impact future generations and seeking to ensure we don't use up resources or cause pollution at rates faster than the earth is able to renew them.
  • How soon can I expect to receive my printed greaseproof paper?

    Typically, our turn-around times are as short as 10-14 working days . If you have a deadline, please be sure to let us know so that we can do all we can to achieve it.
  • Can you help with my design?

    We are able to help you with both the design and content of your printed natural greaseproof sheet. We will ask you a few questions to get an understanding of what you'd like your sheet to achieve, represent and say, and we will be happy to contribute our expertise and experience into making the final product something special.
